My sister-in-law Anna is a gardener. She has made lovely cottage gardens around her house that provide color of some sort all year. While I love my veggie garden and fruit trees, the leap to becoming a proper gardener in all respects is a learning experience for me. As a result Anna is helping me make the gardens at the farm somewhat lower maintenance, since John's parents spent much of their time in later life on the gardens alone.
I wanted to make sure we took cuttings of several old roses I love that I knew would be in the path of John's planned landscaping projects, just in case he forgot to move them.
Anna came out on a recent weekend to help me with the late winter/early spring garden cleanout; we had a day weeding and cutting back the roses and hydrangea. We took these cuttings:
Okay, she took the cuttings and I put them in pots as instructed. They are thriving given all the rain we've had, so I should have lots of new rose bushes to plant shortly.
