This past weekend was our three day Labour Weekend. John and I got stuck in outside around the Homestead.
John is starting to tackle the layout of the terraces off the decks, and re-landscaping the lawns, while I got down on hands and knees and weeded, scraped, and dug out plants around the swimming pool (don't ask about my fingernails). The pool area will get a major rehab.
The weather was perfect. Blue skies, warm spring sunshine. We were both amazed to see the colors of spring, particularly the variation in the trees that John's parents planted during their lifetimes on the property. We feel lucky/blessed to have this legacy to maintain and grow. We were also both pretty stiff and sore by the end of the day!
After a weekend like this it's hard to leave John (and Clifford) and return to Papakura for the work week ahead. I decided to bring a bunch of viburnum back to help keep the images of the garden in springtime in my mind during the week:
