In a prior post I mentioned that we were going to name the kitchen in the Homestead "Rosemary's Kitchen" after John's mum, so that she might supervise all that occurs. Her photo is now framed and hanging above the kitchen doorway. We'll have the official dedication on Boxing Day, when we have a buffet lunch in the garden and sports day (archery, croquet and golf) with the extended family.
At the Cottage we have "The Pink Room" and "The Blue Room." These names date back to when John's sister Julie, her husband Scott and three children lived for a time at the Cottage. I think it was then that the Pink Room was painted bright, bright pink for Roseanna and Lydia, while the Blue Room was painted blue for Edwin.
With our renovations at the Cottage the rooms were repainted but the names stayed. Here's the Pink Room:
This past weekend John and I were talking about the eventual renovation of Maurie's workshop. John's workshop will need to be closer to our new housesite, so we've been thinking about making the workshop into a small guest cottage or "sleep out" in NZ parlance, since it's adjacent to the Homestead. Of course it will still be called "Maurie's Workshop," although I'll need to wash that plate!
