A few years ago we decided to institute a Boxing Day luncheon for our extended family at Struan Farm, especially as the "children" began to have children of their own. It is an opportunity for everyone to get together and catch up in a relaxed setting, and reconnect with the family farm that everyone Robertson has grown up on.
We usually serve up a buffet lunch on the lawn in the garden, with drinks and nibbles throughout the day. In the past two years we've also started some sporting challenges with prizes awarded-- competition gets quite heated. Time permitting we play croquet, golf, archery and petanque (okay, we've never had quite enough time to get around to petanque).
This year gave us the chance to show everyone what has been happening on the property, including the renovation of the Homestead. We had a formal dedication ceremony for Rosemary's Kitchen, with a ribbon cutting by our granddaughter Ella (age three) and grandniece Milly (age three) with speech/toast by John's brother Carrick (age 63). Multigenerational to say the least.
Sarah's husband Matt was charged with organizing the croquet match, which took on a life of its own since he strictly enforced the rules. Yvette's team won after a grueling game. Mike then won the archery trophy but he also spent time coaching everyone so that they were able to hit the target. There simply wasn't enough time for golf this year even though the course was laid out, oh well.
John's cousin Barbara and her partner David came by for a drink and had so much fun that they stayed on for lunch.
Some pics from the day below, a number taken by Carrick:
We think a good time was had by all:
