Walking around the garden at Struan Farm this past weekend I was struck by the signs that summer is starting to draw to a close. The hydrangea get variegated and mottled, a look that I especially love and almost prefer to peak season:
This led me to think about other things in the garden that might now be past their peak but are still beautiful in some way:
Which invariably led me to thinking about people, especially since John and I are now feeling well and truly "middle aged," some days at least. I know "55 is the new 40," etc. etc. but the world doesn't always behave that way.
I don't care about being beautiful, but we can still be appreciated and valued, can't we?
