I found the idea for these cute little turtles made from walnut shells and colored beeswax on the Curly Birds blog. Since we're long on walnuts at Struan Farm after last year's bumper crop I thought it would be fun to try to make them.
I ordered the colored beeswax from Bella Luna Toys, a wonderful website for creative children's toys that specializes in Waldorf toys. The business is based in Maine, but I had the shipment here in NZ within a week, what superb service!
These are simple to make and a craft project that toddlers can easily cope with on a rainy day. The colored beeswax can also be molded into all sorts of shapes, so a good discovery on its own as well.
I love the colors of your turtles - so much fun! Helen
