I'm a bit hesitant to post on this subject since I don't want to tempt fate, but right now I've got three reasonably large pumpkins growing away on the weed mat on Hydrangea Hill at Struan Farm.
If they start turning orange soon I'll know they're Musquee de Provence, the elusive, sculptural french variety that has thumbed its nose at me the past two years. There's a tinge of orange on one, so I think the eagle has landed.
So this year's experiment seems to have worked: I started by planting seeds in my glass/green house in August with the tomatoes, then planted out the seedlings in late October/early November.
Now just to get them over the line and ripened, fingers and toes crossed!
