Major progress on the exterior renovation of Jim's Hut at Struan Farm over the past week:
This next week the interior will get insulated and two sets of bunk beds built (we've decided to do this in lieu of a loft, since it will create more interior space). It will be great for a group of fishermen down at the river, or even intrepid kids! In the meantime it will stay put adjacent to the Homestead.
John made contact with the painter to try to keep things on track to finish this by Christmas....
Cabins, next to the sea, it is very perfect.

It's been a week since, so I'm pretty sure the construction is almost done by now. It's a good thing to put the insulation inside the house, as houses near beaches are exposed to extensive heat especially during summer season. But why don't you try to replace the roof with clay roof tiles? With that material, it wouldn't absorb too much heat compared to other roofing materials.

Hi Mary, yes, construction is done, I'll be doing a post with some interior pics shortly. We're not actually near a beach, but the Hut will eventually be relocated overlooking the Mangaotaki River, which borders Struan Farm. Not many clay roof tiles in rural areas here in NZ, not sure where you're from, but these corrugated steel/iron are typical and traditional. We have them on the original Homestead, sheds and other outbuildings like the workshop. There is insulation between the roof and ceiling cavity, so it's not hot at all. It will be painted green, the rest of the Hut exterior will be white (green door). cheers, Karen
