I've been away for a few days up north this week with John, seeing the sights in the Kaipara District, but more importantly getting my New Zealand citizenship in an official ceremony yesterday. US citizens are able to maintain duel citizenship now, and I've been a permanent resident long enough to qualify.
Income taxes are filed and paid in both jurisdictions under a treaty arrangement, which creates some administrative requirements but I've been dealing with those since I landed many years ago.
The only difference between permanent residency and citizenship practically is that I will also now have a NZ passport and can run for elected political office. Hmmm, that's an option if I were to get bored....
It was quite an emotional experience. Seems I'm here for the duration. And it just keeps getting better!
