There's a bit of history between me and this particular blue bench at Struan Farm.
A short while after I arrived on the scene, I decided to paint one of the many wooden garden benches around the property a bright blue and plonk it down at the pond. It's a peaceful corner of the property, one where one might sit and contemplate life, listen to the native birds, if one had the time!
An eyebrow or two might have been raised at the time about Karen's shocking blue bench, but everyone got used to seeing that bench down at the pond. Dare I say it became "iconic?" Shortly thereafter NZ Gardener and NZ House & Garden featured bright blue garden benches, I'm not sure how I'm ahead of these trends, but I just seem to be.
The bench missed being flattened by the huge poplar that landed in the pond during a major weather bomb several years ago (see above), but had seen better days by that time, it needed an overhaul. So we airlifted it up to the Homestead for re-painting.
And then it sat, and sat. I finally opened a tin of blue paint a few months ago, found it was navy, and tested that out:
Nope, nah, no way. Didn't like that. This bench cried out to be bright blue, and I finally got around to rectifying the situation. All is now right with the world, it can return to the pond:
Now "one" just needs the time to sit and contemplate....
