Continuing this saga, the pfeffernusse/pfefferneusse I ordered from Global Foods Direct arrived by courier post in Piopio, so I was able to make the Caramel Gingerbread Trifles from Donna Hay's most recent magazine.
These are spicy, iced gingerbread cookies, apparently readily available in Australia but shall we say "mostly unavailable" here in NZ. I managed to prevail, buying the last bag in stock at Global Foods Direct so I could test out this recipe. Caramel is poured into the bottom of a glass, followed by vanilla ice cream and then broken pfeffernusse. I then drizzled a bit of caramel over the top.
Pretty good, but fortunately the Amaretti Tiramisu Trifles are still our favorite!
