Or perhaps I'm trying to create a new one at Struan Farm, since I'd like to see a resurgence in the planting of conifers in gardens. We've just planted conifers at the front of the entrance gate to the new house, and they look fantastic:
Here in New Zealand everyone refers to conifers as "old fashioned," as if trends in gardening determine what you plant or don't plant. I love conifers, think they provide colour and texture throughout the year. Okay, yes, they are slow growing. And you will know that I tend to do what I like most if not all of the time, unless John disagrees, and then there's robust debate!
But on this we agree--we both love these conifers at the front gate (even if John too calls them "old fashioned"). In time, one will need to be removed on each side when they get too big, but we're years away from that. And yes, I will tidy up the dirt on the railroad sleepers/ties....
