I must give credit where credit is due on this. My friends at Country Trading posted a beautiful updated profile photograph last week of clean, trimmed garlic on their Facebook page. I was impressed, and it gave me pause. I'd dropped the ball--I was meant to clean and trim the roots of my harvested garlic, which has been drying out in the garage here at Struan Farm!
So while the bread was baking for farmstay guests this weekend I grabbed scissors and trimmed roots and peeled and/or brushed off dried soil. With thanks to Country Trading, the garlic crop is now officially "glammed up!"
p.s. remember that garlic gets planted on the shortest day of the year, June here in NZ, and harvested on the longest in December. So it's time to start thinking about fertilising those beds for the crop....
