We're so "on trend" here at Struan Farm, with NZ Gardener magazine reporting that hydrangeas are "back in." At least for the moment. Practically, hydrangeas have never been "off trend" with us, with 80 or so plants around the gardens at the Homestead and our house. They were one of John's mum's favourite flowers, and I have continued what she started.
Everything is blooming very early this year, hydrangeas included. They don't normally bloom by Christmas but this season they are all out. Not sure what this means for late summer in the gardens, if this is a message from the universe that winter plans to arrive early.
In the meantime we can just stop and smell the flowers. They were happy to have had a bit of rain this week to perk them up.
They're standing by to assist with the Boxing Day flower arrangements.
