The hops I've planted over the pergola at the entrance to our orchard here at Struan Farm have delivered this season, exceeding my expectations. The vines or "bines" have grown well after a slow start, and now the female plants have come into flower, producing green cones or "strobiles."
I love a very famous Danish modern light fixture designed by Poul Henningsen. It's called the "Artichoke," but also looks very much like a hops cone, don't you think?
Art imitating nature....p.s. the hops are deciduous, so they'll get a cutback after finishing up in autumn and we'll start all over again next year.
And is beer making for the future?? ;)

The gnomes are trying to encourage me, but I've got enough to do at the moment!
