John's organised the digger to come back to Struan Farm for a day or two of different jobs around the property. One involves cleaning up the edge of the pond, so we needed to pull the plug from the pond to drain the water out temporarily.
Our littlest gnomes, Little Tinker and Little Leroy, volunteered to help, especially since it involved a trip down to the river to watch the water as it surged through P3 ("Pond 3") and P2 ("Pond 2" or "Paradise Pond"). We all watched as John bent down and pulled the plug out, it's on a metal chain near the dam. (John will be relieved I'm not showing you that. See, I do exercise discretion.)
Once the plug was pulled we all travelled down to the river. John and I walked up the hill to "P3" to check the progression of water as it travelled from the pond via the stream through the QE2 bush reserve down to the wetland area near the river. Little Tinker and Little Leroy stayed at the overflow pipe below "Paradise Pond" or "P2," waiting for the water to come to them.
We (using the Royal "we" here) continue to work along this stream, cleaning out weeds and planting native vegetation-- it's a big clean up so a long term project. The stock have been fenced out. John has sprayed blackberry and planted flax and several hundred trees, with many more to come.
The gnomes were very excited to see the volume of water! We had some discussion about a kayaking trip, but decided to save that for another day. Pulling the plug was a big success. The adventures of Little Tinker and Little Leroy continue.
