The New World Little Garden I grew this year down at the Homestead here at Struan Farm managed to thrive on virtual neglect. I watered it when I remembered to, which wasn't very often. Despite that, and much to my surprise, we harvested silverbeet/swiss chard, six zucchini and at least the same number of butternut squash. We also had borage and sweet peas flourish alongside the veggies. There were also some yellow beans, but I just didn't get around to those.
I was getting ready to pull it all up and out as part of my autumn clean up of the gardens when I found this:
Yet another carefully hidden butternut squash, one that grew up into the hydrangea leaning over the raised bed. It's dangling rather artfully, don't you think? So my Little Garden clean up effort has been put on pause, for now.
