During my travels in the car today I listened to the Nine to Noon Show on Radio NZ ("RNZ"). One of the segments had a review of a new children's book called "Granny McFlitter, The Champion Knitter," by Heather Haylock and Lael Chisholm, as well as another new children's book called "The Yark." You can listen to it here.
It is a New Zealand book and incorporates into the story the sinking of a ship called "The Rena" off the Tauranga coast, a major environmental disaster. But (as you might expect) it was the knitting that drew me in. So yes, a bookstore was added to the errand list.
This is a very cute story, and a must read for any knitters and those who love them. Most knitters, like Granny McFlitter, just want to be needed!
Sounds interesting

You will especially enjoy her since she knits squids and polka dot sting rays, in addition to her major project!

Hi! I've just seen your post from last year. Thanks so much for the positive feedback on 'Granny McFlitter the Champion Knitter'! I've been stoked with how many people (particularly knitters!) have enjoyed the story. There is now a sequel out - I don't know if you've seen it or not - 'Granny McFlitter: A Country Yarn' - where she enters the Best Vegetable Knitter event at the A&P Show, and saves the show from a rampaging bull, using her knitting prowess.
Anyway, thanks again for the great feedback on the first book. Your farm looks lovely, and I've now signed up to your blog - it looks like just the sort of topics I enjoy :-)
