John and nephew Mike have started a bit of a project at our main pond here at Struan Farm this past week. John decided the intake pipe at the pond needed to be replaced. We've temporarily drained the pond to control the algae and allow for some clean up of weeds that tend to grow as well, so now is the time for this to happen.
The associated infrastructure is considerably more elaborate than I anticipated, boys being boys:
My part in this wee project is scheduled for winter, when I'll crack into weeding around the edges and landscaping once again. The native flaxes and trees I planted three or so years ago now are reasonably established, especially the cabbage trees and flaxes. I just need to tidy things up and figure out where any gaps are in the planting. It's much easier to tackle that in the winter, when/if it's not raining and there's not quite as much work to do around the gardens!
