Our Monarch Butterfly caterpillars here at Struan Farm march to their own internal clocks, they don't follow the schedule of other monarchs around the country apparently. I stay on top of what is happening elsewhere via Monarch Butterfly New Zealand Trust and the Moths and Butterflies of New Zealand Trust's FB page.
While other monarch butterfly fans are proudly reporting chrysalises all over, our caterpillars are taking their sweet time, munching down the swan plants to nubs. Why leave food on the table? They have just started to move from the swan plants to other locations where they will transform themselves. I'm needing to be careful walking around the lawns at the moment!
This isn't an overnight process. Transformation takes time (isn't that rather an understatement Karen?). One cannot sit and watch it happen, at least not without the time and patience of Buddha.
