Right now I am resisting the urge to give the gardens here at Struan Farm their autumn clean out and cut back. For the bees and the monarch butterflies really. The bees are still busy, working away on any and all flowers, while the second generation of monarch butterfly caterpillars are on the verge of going into chrysalis. They will need nectar once they emerge.
So I've exercised restraint, which is somewhat unusual for me. I've done a bit of deadheading instead, saving the major work in the gardens for a few more weeks. Easter weekend feels a bit right. There are no long holiday weekends around here.
I know, it still looks good from a distance, but trust me, these flowers have done their dash and the weeds also need attention. It's time for everything/one to have a rest, except for me!
