The monarch butterflies decided to launch themselves out in the world this past Saturday and Sunday here at Struan Farm. I discovered eight or so on Saturday, while on Sunday afternoon I counted eighteen newly emerged butterflies drying and testing their wings on plants in the gardens. All I can say is they continue to surprise me with where they hide in their chrysalises. The penstemmon and lamb's ear were quite popular locations, along with a few other random plants. Good thing I deferred my weeding and autumn clean out!
Perhaps the blast of cold weather followed by somewhat warmer temperatures convinced them it was now or never. We're trying to do our part for monarch butterflies here at Struan Farm!
