I know, it's supposed to be "an apple a day." But at the moment my mantra here at Struan Farm is "a tray a day," at least each rainy day. That's a tray of walnuts to be shelled and stored in ziplock bags in the freezer each rainy day. The walnuts that I harvested from the tree in the Pet Paddock have been drying in wooden seed trays on newspaper in the garage for over five weeks now, so it's time to get cracking. Literally. I've given some bags away to guests and friends (take some walnuts, please!), but I counted twenty trays when I began this little exercise. John seems to disappear when I mention that it might be nice to sit at the kitchen bench, have a cuppa, and shell a hundred or two. I'm clearly on my own here, it's me and the nuts.
The walnuts are beautiful this year. And I know Struan Farm muesli will taste that much better if I keep at it. Perhaps this counts as a form of nutty meditation?
