Or "re-collared" as the case may be. It was well past time for Rosie to get a new bright red collar here at Struan Farm. Her original one was dirty and tattered after two years' wear, and we couldn't have the diva of the mob looking shabby, could we? Especially not right before lambing.
She's the only sheep with a collar around the farm. I was tempted to put them on Pip, Pepper, Ruby and Cookie too, but knew I'd be pushing it with both hubby John and farmer John. They only humour me so much, and collars make it harder for Farmer John when he shears. Everyone knows the brown faced ewes are my former pets, no one gets confused about them. It's only the white Romney crosses like Rosie and Cookie that someone might get mixed up about since they look the mob.
So when the ewes were rotated into the paddock near the Cottage and the Wool Shed John talked Rosie into accompanying him into the yard, where it was much easier to corner her and make the swap. Pip and Pepper came along with her into the yard, but I let them out into the paddock when we went down to make the change. I also brought a ziplock bag of cut apple, tempting treats that made it all very "easy peasy."
She wanted that new collar. She knows she's special, she's Rosie after all.
