It's the time of the year when impromptu ponds happen at Struan Farm, particularly after several days of heavy rains. The Pet Paddock usually gets a rather large one down at the far end.
But this is the first time I've seen a duck swimming on it! Look closely, toward the back on the left hand side.
He flew off as I squished along to get closer. We've realised that we probably shouldn't have planted three almond trees, which don't like wet feet, in this part of the paddock. They haven't been doing particularly well, haven't flowered or had nuts five years on now. This could be why. One learns as one goes along, doesn't one? Or one should.
But leave them there. Some nut trees can take up to seven years before they produce nuts.
