John and I went out a few days ago to look at the horse chestnut tree in flower in the Pet Paddock here at Struan Farm. Previously I've thought these trees weren't terribly interesting, and somewhat a waste of space, but I've reconsidered. This tree is quite pretty, and looks almost like a tuning fork, doesn't it?
In learning a bit more about the tree I've read that it is threatened with extinction in the UK due to a leaf miner. Also that the nuts, which are inedible, are called "conkers," and are used for a game. There are even "World Conker Championships!" Learn how to play here.
Hmmm, do you think we could bring those to Piopio? Just an idea..... John isn't the only one with ideas around here!
