Having a wee bit of an issue with birds in the backyard at "veggie world" here at Struan Farm at the moment. I realised that they'd pulled out some cornflower seedlings in my edible flower troughs, also a bit of spinach and one bean seedling.
Normally I protect the rows of veggie seedlings with handy chicken wire covers, but I hadn't thought to do that for the flowers. And once veggies get to a certain size I typically remove the chicken wire. Now it seems I might need a plan B.
For the beans I've tied "scare tape" around the trough, also dangled a few ribbons of the tape near the corn and peas.
But it may be time for a scarecrow!
