Okay, we now know this isn't being done by the birds. The birds are after the plums but not the tomatoes. This beautiful ripe tomato was hidden under quite a bit of foliage at the bottom of a plant in the backyard, behind a net, and next to a rat trap. So much for the special chocolate mice and rat bait! It seems Karen's heirloom tomatoes trump both peanut butter and creme de la creme rat bait. I would, of course, agree.
We'll set more traps with different bait and if need be erect a perimeter around the tomato area in the backyard. This rodent doesn't know who he's dealing with just yet!
