Yesterday afternoon I went outside to the veggie gardens in the rain here at Struan Farm to dig up some beetroot for pickling. It was a good day for that sort of thing. And we really needed the rain, so there were no complaints about the weather from anyone here.
Much to my surprise I found that heaps of tomatoes had ripened since the previous afternoon, when I'd last been out to pick them. If I hadn't seen this for myself I wouldn't have believed it, and I haven't been able to find anything about this phenomenon after searching. I'd made a good job of it yesterday given the forecasted rain, since tomatoes tend to split when it rains and I didn't want to lose good fruit.
Let's just say that tomatoes keep teaching me, and I keep learning!
