We have a weeping cercis in the small garden just off the deck outside our bedroom window here at Struan Farm. It's a beautiful small tree, with dark burgundy heart-shaped leaves for most of the year. In autumn its transition from burgundy to brilliant red and orange leaves is quite special to watch.
Hmmm, I've just substituted "transition" for "metamorphosis" above, feeling the latter was too dramatic. Hope you're with me. I checked, and the definition of "metamorphosis" implies a change in form from one thing to something entirely different, while "transition" means the process of changing from one condition or state to another. So the meaning is a better fit for what I'm trying to describe as well. The tree isn't changing to something entirely different--it's still a tree but in a different state of being or "tree-ness."
We've had quite a bit of wind and rain this week, and I wanted to make sure I photographed the tree to share it with you before these vibrant leaves were blown off! That would be yet another "transition," wouldn't it?
