I looked out from our house here at Struan Farm a few mornings ago at the sheep in the mist, and was reminded of a movie about American primatologist Dian Fossey, "Gorillas in the Mist." The movie starred Sigourney Weaver as Fossey; it's worth seeing if you don't know her story. Spoiler alert: it doesn't end well.
Fossey was one of the "Trimates" along with Jane Goodall and Birute Galdikas. As young women they worked under Louis Leakey studying gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans, respectively; they were sometimes called "Leakey's Angels" as a result. Fossey was in Rwanda, Goodall in Gombe, and Galdikas in Indonesia and Borneo. Today Dr. Galdikas is considered the world's foremost authority on orangutans, while Dr. Goodall continues to speak and work as a much respected conservationist. Tragically, Fossey was murdered in Rwanda while living in the jungle studying and working to protect the gorillas. You will need to watch the film to learn more about that.
Okay, a bit of a tangent, I know. But that's the way my mind works sometimes. Sheep in the mist, gorillas in the mist, connect the dots and away we go!
