It's pretty much joy and happiness out back in the Pet Pen here at Struan Farm right now. Buzz, Sugar and Spice have settled into the Pen and bonded as a trio. They nap nestled in the Pet Palace, and have lovely personalities, at least so far. I'm not sure they know their names just yet, but they recognise my voice and like a good post-bottle cuddle.
Once the main lambing season gets underway and new pet lambs land (if they do), these will be moved into the paddock at the back gate. It's easier to feed different aged lambs separately, I've learned this the hard way. These are now on four bottles per day vs. six initially. At the end of August they go to three feeds per day, a regimen that lasts until weaning in December. Yep, feeding lambs three times a day for three months.
Pet lambs, the little darlings, are a major commitment. But they are worth it. I'm already worrying about my obvious attachment to Buzz, knowing all too well that real tears will be shed.
