We're almost finished with this season's harvest of blackcurrants here at Struan Farm, and it's been a bounty. Seven big containers in the freezer for jam making and baking, hooray! I've still got some reasonably sized berries on the bushes in the back that I'm collecting each day, so will finish picking those as they ripen. What's left on the bushes at the front near the orchard and workshop can be enjoyed by the birds, I've made sure there's not much.
For some reason blackcurrants like us here at Struan Farm, and we return the favour. Yet another superfood, with great health benefits from that dark blue skin. "Anthocyanins" from what I've learnt, which can lower blood pressure and improve visual acuity, amongst other positive things.
