Apropos of my post yesterday on the quince, I've been checking our two "Huia" fig trees here at Struan Farm every few days. Especially the one on the point out the back from our house, which gets more direct sunlight and tends to fruit earlier than the much larger one down in the Pet Paddock.
I've had nephew Mike deploy some of the netting removed from the Luisa plum tree in an attempt to discourage the birds. He's tossed the net over the top, we'll see if that proves any deterrent.
Figs droop/sag down when ripe, and ours aren't anywhere near that just yet. We tend to get figs, feijoas and walnuts all at about the same time, but who know what will happen this year!
It does look like it should be a good harvest. I'll make some Spiced Figs in Brandy, but will also try dehydrating some for the first time this year. Only so many boozy figs one can eat, right?
