I've been going down to the Homestead at Struan Farm each day to gather walnuts and feijoas and check on the figs. I haven't been wandering around the gardens too much. During the severe drought we had this summer I adopted a strategy of leaving the gardens to cope, or not. I didn't weed or deadhead, not wanting to stress anyone any more than needed.
So it was with great surprise when I did take a look yesterday morning I found this:
A riot of blooming dahlias and zinnia and the random "vintage" hydrangea. Yes, there will be weeds and things needing attention. But the garden did look after itself.
It made me smile.
