There's a big old brilliant red rhododendron "Cornubia" just inside the front entrance gate here at Struan Farm. It was planted by John's parents outside the Homestead, their former home, many years ago now.
So when we started landscaping up at our new, now not-so-new, house, I was determined to plant a brilliant red "Cornubia" at our entrance. Yes, go ahead, call me a traditionalist. Or even worse, sentimental.
This tree has been growing outside our gate going on five years. The soil under the redwood grove isn't the best. Despite annual/semi-annual feeds with proper acidic food, it hasn't flowered.
Until this year, 2020. One pop of red, just a teaser:
But we will celebrate this to encourage it along, won't we?
