Yesterday afternoon I ran out with broom and bucket in hand to clean out the chicken coop here at Struan Farm. The "ladies" are meant to stay in their house for this week to acclimate themselves to home sweet home, and things are "accumulating" so to speak.
As I was walking back to the house after that pleasant little job I looked under the pergola and grape arbor in the gardens and saw this:
Beautiful, vibrantly coloured tulips had popped up and out. Seemingly overnight. And I'd been so preoccupied bombing past them, head down, wearing out a path in the lawn to the chook house, that I'd missed them entirely!
New chooks, pet lamb, wobbly old dog, and germinating veggies in the glasshouse requiring water on a regular basis. Okay, yes, all that plus COVID-19. But it's time to pause, say thanks, and admire the spring flowers.
What a gift. I think journalist and writer Connie Schultz may put it best: time to breathe.
