Yes, I'll confess. We're still working through shelling all of this past season's walnut harvest here at Struan Farm. While some of the harvest has gone to the Piopio Community Fruit & Veg stand to share, I've got 1 1/2 big hessian sacks sitting in the garage here that I continue to work my way through. Initially I'd cart a sack inside and plop it on the kitchen bench, but that proved messy and overwhelming. So I've adopted another strategy and am "decanting" them onto a seed tray. The "tray a day" mantra used in previous years seems to be a more manageable approach to the task at hand. It's realistic progress that can be measured.
We've just finished up using last year's stash in the freezer in our winter porridge/oatmeal, so it's all the more important I get onto these. Yes, yes I will. Rainy days are good for that. Plus walnuts might just be the ticket in procrastinating on the ironing!
