Our trusty scarecrow "Henry" reported in for his seasonal duty today here at Struan Farm. He tries his best to keep naughty birds at bay. Last year we deployed him in the raised tomato bed near the workshop, this year I'm testing him back in Veggie World. I'll plant rows of corn beside him.
I've managed to pull the accumulated cobwebs from the shed off his outfit and refreshed his chapeau with vibrant fruits and veg. Next year he might get a new pair of jeans.
Henry participated in our first Community Fruit & Veg Stand float in the Piopio Christmas parade several years ago now. One of the little boys who volunteered to be a bunny rabbit eating carrots in the veggie garden scene gave him his name. And so he's been Henry ever since.
